Ensuring Best Infant Dental Care - Things to Consider

Parents are like teachers to their children. This is the reason that children are often found following the footsteps of their parents. Same is the case in dental care. If you are good in dealing with your oral hygiene, you will find your children doing the same. Now, if you have good idea about how to take care of your child’s dental health, you will surely find raising your kid as a less disturbing experience. However, there are some responsibilities you will need to fulfill. Having that said, it would be worth mentioning that being a role model is important but you will have to go beyond it and ensure that your child is not ignoring basic oral care routine he/she should stick with. Moreover, you will have to be vigilant about the oral health and hygiene of your infant.

Daily cleaning of teeth and gums
Although your 7-month old child is not eating any regular food, it doesn’t mean that there is going to be no plaque on the surface of his/her teeth. You will still need to ensure proper cleaning of the teeth and gums of your child. Here, you will not need to go for the regular brushing of the teeth and gums of your child because of the sensitivity. However, you can use a small brush, a finger brush, or a piece of cloth. The toothpaste should be used in a size of a rice grain. It is idea to brush your baby’s teeth for two minutes twice in every day. And make sure that you allow your child to chew on something safer because children tend to put everything in their mouths.

Don’t give them bottles while they sleep
This one is important. Putting bottle in the mouth of your child while they sleep can raise the risk of tooth decay. It is due to the fact that milk and formula, which is usually given the babies, are sweeter than normal milk. The sugars cling to the teeth of the babies and allow bacteria to lay their acidic waste which can result in cavities. Pacifier can be a much better option than a bottle given during the sleep.

Avoid giving them juices
Make sure that you are not giving your kid any juice. Breast milk and formula are the best options for feeding the babies. However, you can consider giving them diluted juices on occasional basis. You can also make them used to drinking plain water.

Dental visit
At the age of one, you should take your child to the dentist. The first dental visit is usually an advisory appointment for the parents because dentists tell them about how to ideally take care of the dental and oral health of children.
